Embroidery · Practice · Inquiry

From a stitch, to a question we can share.

EmbroideryArt.org brings questions from Chinese embroidery practice into an open conversation about making, authorship and knowledge. Look closely at a decision, follow the reasoning, and consider what your experience might add.

Practice gives the questions their starting point.

The initiative draws on the Chinese embroidery research and practice presented through embarts.com. Here, the purpose is to bring the questions within that work into focus, make the reasoning easier to examine, and find people who can take the inquiry further.

Where the project begins

Choose a thread to follow.

Eight open inquiries sit within three research directions. They are invitations to investigate, with room for disagreement and revision.

People and contribution

How should a record describe the different people and decisions involved in a work?

Consider authorship

Let the reader follow the reasoning.

A source, an observation and an interpretation do different work. Our method asks each study to make those differences visible, acknowledge contributions and explain where its conclusions stop.

What could you bring to the question?

A different explanation, a public source, or an interest in a focused study can be a starting point. Explore how your experience could contribute to a research question.
